I had reservations about "Minish" when I began: made by Capcom, features Link as a boy, inclusion of miniature elf-like creatures that seemed like an appeal to children, a non-Ganon antagonist, no collecting of Triforce pieces. The game had these strikes against it, but after delving into it and learning how the minish aspect contributed to the gameplay, I found the game quite enjoyable.
As it was released in 2004, "Minish" borrows elements from "Ocarina of Time", "Majora's Mask", and "Wind Waker" as well as previous 2D Zeldas. Along with staples of old, like Fairies, Octoroc, Arrows, Rupees, etc, the game includes Gorons, the Postman, Fairy Princesses, Tingle, and others. Also, many soundbytes from N64/Gamecube Zeldas are included in the form of BGM and SFX which adds an element of consistency that allows "Minish" to feel like a relevant entry into the overall series, and not some sort of offshoot side quest.
In my opinion, this game is a must-play for anyone who loves the Zelda franchise.
What I liked about the game:
-BGM from "Ocarina of Time" and "A Link to the Past"
-Kinstones and how they add another layer of exploration and interaction with NPC's in the game.
-The "Cane of Pacci" and it's ability to flip things over.
What I didn't like about the game:
-I found myself maxing out my rupees fairly quickly without many means to spend them. Discovering a chest with 200 rupees is a waste when your limit is maxed out.
-The repetitive dialog with the clerk who offers you the chance to win figurines. There are 136 figurines to collect, and constantly having to scroll through that dialog each time discouraged me from pursuing what is already a repetitive act.
Number of times I referred to an online walkthrough to help me advance: 3
